Life Changing IMPACT|

Life has a way of surprising us, sometimes in some amazing ways as well as take us through some heartbreaking journeys.

Looking back over my life, decades later, I realize with great humility, that I am who I am today because of an amazing group of people. They gave their time, energy, resources to pay for my education & mentor me through my educational journey.

Were they Rotarians? No, but I definitely see and still experience the heart and spirit of rotary in their actions.

This is what makes September one of my dearest Rotary months, because we focus on Basic education and literacy in the world of Rotary.

Education turns the world literally; it reduces poverty, improves health, encourages community and economic development whilst promoting peace.

Consider this:
• If all women completed primary education, there would be 66% fewer maternal deaths.
• A child born to a mother who can read is 50% more likely to survive past the age of five.
• If all students in low-income countries left school with basic reading skills, 171 million people could be lifted out of poverty, which would be equivalent to a 12% cut in world poverty.

What are we doing about this within our District? This is what September is about, in small and large strides we are covering your impact as we deal with illiteracy and lack of access to basic education.

Closer home, in addition to September being basic education and literacy month, it also happens to be New Generation month.

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can choose to change the world.”

Nelson Mandela
