The Rotary Youth Exchange Program has long been recognized as a transformative experience for young leaders, empowering them to become catalysts for peace and social justice in their local communities and around the world.

This program is made possible by the unwavering dedication, leadership, and passion of the tens of thousands of volunteers, both Rotarians and non-Rotarians, who work tirelessly to ensure its success.

Recently, two Ethiopian Rotary Youth Exchange students, Interactor Yonas and Interactor Elizabeth, embarked on their exchange journeys to Canada and New York, respectively. As they safely arrived at their destinations, they were warmly welcomed by Rotarians and their host families, setting the stage for an unforgettable experience.

Their journey as Rotary Youth Exchange Students will undoubtedly shape their futures, equipping them with the skills and passion needed to create a more peaceful and just world.

RYLA, as the program is known, provides young people with the opportunity to immerse themselves in a new culture, learn a new language and develop a global perspective. Through living with host families and attending local schools, these students gain a deeper understanding of different traditions, customs and ways of life. This first-hand experience fosters empathy, tolerance, and open-mindedness, essential qualities for building bridges of understanding in an increasingly interconnected world.

Beyond cultural exchange, the program also focuses on developing leadership skills and promoting service above self. Rotary Youth Exchange students are encouraged to engage in community service projects during their stay, actively contributing to their host communities and leaving a lasting impact. By participating in local initiatives and collaborating with fellow students, they become agents of positive change, inspiring others to follow suit.

What sets the RYLA apart is its long-term impact. Even after their exchanges end, these young leaders continue to serve as ambassadors for peace and social justice in their home countries.

Armed with newfound knowledge and experiences, they become advocates for international understanding and cooperation, working towards a more harmonious and equitable world.

The success of the program would not be possible without the countless volunteers who dedicate their time, expertise, and resources to make it a reality. Rotarians and non-Rotarians alike come together to support these students, ensuring their safety, well-being, and growth throughout their exchange journeys. Their commitment to fostering global citizenship and nurturing the next generation of leaders is truly commendable.

RYLA stands as a shining example of how young leaders can be inspired to serve as catalysts for peace and social justice. With the unwavering support of dedicated volunteers, this program continues to transform lives, fostering understanding, empathy, and a commitment to service.
