No Family Should Go Hungry

The coronavirus pandemic is one of the most challenging global disasters since its outbreak and life has not been the same for most Kenyans.

Because food security is a major concern, especially for poor households, the Rotary Club of Nairobi Thika Road stepped in to save the situation. The club launched a food donation program to support the less privileged families that are struggling to meet basic needs during the pandemic.

“Rotary club of Nairobi Thika Road is indeed very responsive to issues affecting our community,’’ President Mathew Karanja said. “This is the single reason we have focused on measures like providing food hampers to vulnerable families as they work out next steps on how to get their livelihoods back on track,”

Through its Projects Director Martin Njeru, the club joined the Kenya Food Cash Working Group, in which several organizations have come together to pilot the delivery of food supplies through online platforms in order to reach a wider population and more partners.

“We have taken the stride to engage such organizations like Lotto Foundation and Tatua Tatu who share the same ideologies on such needy families.  We are very grateful that they have walked the journey with us,” President Karanja said.

On September 25, 2020, The Rotary Club of Nairobi Thika Road in conjunction with Tatua Tatu, Mediamax Networks Limited and Handmaids of the Holy Child Jesus congregation had a food donation exercise at Olympic Primary School in Kibra Constituency, Nairobi.

The exercise that targeted 700 vulnerable households benefited residents of Gatwekera, Shofco, Mama Okinda, PAG, Maranatha, Subra, Kianda Sub-location, Olympic Village, Soweto, Kianda 42, Bombolulu and Laini Saba areas.
