With great enthusiasm and a deep sense of purpose, I extend a warm welcome to each and every one of you as we embark on an extraordinary new Rotary year in District 9212. It is an honor to serve as your District Governor, and I am inspired by the remarkable commitment and dedication that each of you brings to our collective mission of creating positive and lasting change in our communities.
As we begin this journey together, let us reflect on the powerful theme that Rotary International has chosen for the 2023/24 year: “Create Hope In The World.” These words resonate deeply with us, as they encapsulate the essence of our Rotary values and the impact we strive to make. The theme serves as a guiding light, reminding us of the immense potential we possess to bring hope and transformation to those in need.
In our diverse district, spanning across Kenya, Ethiopia, South Sudan, and Eritrea, we have the unique opportunity to unite under the banner of “We Are One!” This rallying cry emphasizes the importance of solidarity and collaboration among our member countries, working together as a collective force for good. Through our shared values, we can transcend borders and make a profound difference in the lives of countless individuals.
To ensure our success, we have developed a comprehensive two-year strategic action plan, crafted through the combined efforts of our district leadership team, club presidents, and members. This plan serves as our roadmap; outlining the steps we will take to fulfill our purpose of uniting people to take action and creating positive, lasting change.
At the heart of our action plan lie four transformative pillars, each instrumental in driving our mission forward.
The first pillar is Expanding Our Reach by Strengthening Our Clubs. By attracting and retaining passionate members who are committed to Rotary’s mission, we can amplify our impact and bring our service to new heights. Let us embrace innovation and create new club experiences and service opportunities that resonate with a diverse range of individuals. Leveraging technology, we will enhance communication and collaboration, forging deeper connections among our members.
Enhancing Participant Engagement by Increasing Inter-Club Coherence forms the second pillar of our action plan. We recognize the importance of meeting the diverse needs of our members, supporting them in their personal and professional growth. By investing in our members and fostering inter-club partnerships, we can create meaningful experiences that keep our members engaged and committed to Rotary’s ideals.
The third pillar focuses on Increasing Our Impact through the Implementation of Larger, More Impactful Projects. Guided by the Rotary International goal of bringing lasting change to the world, we will prioritize projects that address pressing community needs such as education, disease prevention, and economic development. We will champion projects that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, ensuring that our impact is felt by all.
Lastly, we must Improve Our Fundraising efforts to support our ambitious goals. Our commitment to eradicating polio remains steadfast, and we must rally our clubs to contribute generously to the Rotary Foundation. By raising at least $1.0 million this year, equivalent to a per capita donation of US$100 per member, we can continue to lead the fight against polio and make significant strides towards a polio-free world.
To enable our success, we have identified four foundational enablers that the district will provide to you and your clubs:
Deepening and structuring partnerships will ensure we have the necessary resources to achieve our goals. World-class training and onsite support will equip you, your board officers, and club members with the knowledge and tools needed to excel. Embracing technology and automation will streamline our operations, making communication and administrative tasks more efficient. Lastly, skillful and intentional communications will strengthen our public image and drive membership growth and drive membership growth and funding for our projects.
As we embark on this transformative journey, I am filled with optimism and pride in the incredible work we will accomplish together. Let us forge ahead, united in purpose and unwavering in our commitment to create hope in the world. Together, we will unleash lasting change and leave an indelible mark on the lives we touch.
