Meet Isaac Njihia – the Rotaract Club President of the Year 2019/20.

Every year, the District awards the best Rotary, Rotaract, and Interact Members and Clubs for their exemplary performance in various categories. The awards are dubbed “The Sam Owori Awards”

The main objective of the “The Sam Owori Awards” is to recognize, honor efforts and activities geared towards making clubs stronger, communities better, and improve the public image of Rotary.

This year, District 9212 Governor Joe Otin awarded Rotary, Rotaract and Interact Members and Clubs for exemplary performance in various categories, in what was dubbed as the “Rotary Oscars”

In the highly competitive awards, Rotaractor Isaac Njihia, President of the Rotaract Club of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology scooped the “Rotaract Club President of the Year” Award. This followed a meticulous nomination process and at the end, the 8 judges vetting the applications unanimously agreed that Isaac Njihia had diligently served the Rotaract Club of JKUAT as its President in the Rotary Year 2019/2020 and exceeded expectation.

Here is his story:

Coming from a humble background motivates me to make a difference in the lives of others. That is why I joined the Rotaract Club of JKUAT in 2017. I wanted to engage in community service activities, gain new skills and network with others.

Rotaract is now part of my life and I am happy that I joined this great organization. Through Rotaract, I have been able to visit Kilifi for the Rotaract District Conference and Assembly and Kisumu for installation of my club’s 2019-20 board.

It is during the installation that I realized the need to involve board members in achieving the club’s goals. Throughout the year, I ensured there was regular communication and cultivated a good relationship with the board and the club’s members. This enabled us to work as a team and accomplish our plans.  We also introduced a monthly contribution and had exciting club activities including hangouts and great fellowships.

As Club President, I did my best to support board members and have a good relationship with the university and our mother club, the Rotary Club of Thika. We also had  good reporting and the public image team did their best. These steps not only ensured smooth club progress but also created a good environment for members.

For our efforts, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology recognized Rotaract Club of JKUAT as Outstanding Club of the year by Jomo Kenyatta University Students’ Association(JKUSA) . Rotary awarded the club a citation with platinum distinction and I was recognized as Rotaract Club President of the year in District 9212.

The desire to serve and achieve more motivated me to give my best in everything from being a new member, PR Director and finally as a club president. “If you are working on something that you really care about, you don’t have to be pushed. The vision pulls you.” Steve Jobs truly captured some of the wisdom of life in this statement. Do that which you are passionate about and your work will feel effortless.
