Get Involved!

Some communities in our beloved countries are in desperate need of individuals who are willing to invest their talents, skills, training, and ethical leadership to change their current circumstances.

In Eastern Africa, nearly 60 million people live without access to basic drinking water while food insecurity is the order of the day. In Kenya, 95% of children get access to primary school education but the ratio significantly declines to about 70% access to secondary education and only about 15% acquire tertiary education. Consequently, the rate of youth employment stands at about 33% creating a breeding ground for poverty and underdevelopment.

Community development is growing to become a necessity by the day. Now more than ever, it is vital that we bring together our community members and encourage collective action to help find solutions to our common problems. This is why we need professionals to take up more volunteer leadership roles to help in upgrading the standard of living in our communities.

Martin Luther King envisioned that an individual has not started living fully until they can rise above the narrow confines of individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of humanity. Every person must decide at some point, whether they will walk in the light of creative altruism or the darkness of destructive selfishness.

Humanity is calling upon us to inspire confidence and find ways of creating a bigger and longer-lasting impact in our communities. Direction is more important than speed and we must strive to help our people in identify this by being proactive and solution-focused. We must be at the forefront in ensuring we are not overrating the crisis we are in and not underrating our ability to pull through.

Many service organizations give us opportunities to make an impact in our communities. I therefore I urge you to find one and get involved. I have a bias towards Rotary and Rotaract where I have continued to walk in a journey of discovering my life’s purpose, vision, and potential. Serving humanity while growing my profession. Rotary holds that the interests of society demand that there be a place where people of diverse races, faiths, and political affiliations can meet in happy fellowship and provide service above self.

Coming together is the beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is a success. Together we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.

Get involved! Humanity needs you.
