The Winner Of This Year’s Rotary Peace Scholarship UNVEILED

Peter Machieng did his primary and secondary education at Kakuma refugee camp in Turkana county in Kenya. He attained diplomas in Computer studies, Theology and Missions in Kakuma before joining University of Nairobi main campus, graduating with a BA in political science in December 2014.


His first posting was as  an Assistant Democracy and Governance officer with Winrock International BRIDGE Program in Bentiu Unity State in South Sudan. He later worked as an Assistant Program officcer with JICA Juba Sudan office before joining his current employer United Nation Mission in South Sudan (UNIMISS) as a humanitarian coordinator (Relief, Re-integration and Protection) Bentui Field office in South Sudan.

He will be joining University of Bradford in UK next year on a full scholarship by The Rotary Foundation. Congratulations to Peter Machieng for winning the scholarship and the DRFC Scholarship team lead by Rtn Pheobe Gitau for recommending a winner. Last year TRF awarded 94 scholarships worldwide chosen from 540 districts and this was the only one in our District.
