Rotary District 9212 Begins Re-Districting Process

Rotary District 9212 has established a re-districting board to evaluate the efficiency of the current structure and boundaries of our four nation District in accordance with Rotary International policies.

“We are pleased to announce the formation of the Rotary District 9212 Re-Districting Board,’’ according to a joint statement by the District Governor, District Governor Elect and District Governor Nominee. “This review is critical and timely. Our district has grown to a point that requires us to assess if our current arrangements are fit for purpose.’’

The next steps in the re-districting process will include benchmarking with other Rotary districts that have recently undergone re-districting to gain insights into the process, challenges, and recommendations; developing a strategy and timeline for the re-districting process; conducting open forums and structured information sessions to educate Rotarians and other stakeholders on the purpose, advantages, and implications of re-districting and seeking re-districting approval during the D9212 District Assembly in April 2024. It is projected that Rotary International will grant its approval during the 2024/25 Rotary year.


Recent examples of successful re-districting efforts include Ghana becoming a single-country district, highlight the positive impact this process can have on Rotary clubs and members.

The first District Governor of newly formed Rotary District 9104 in Ghana David Osei Amankwah (L) with H.E. Former Ghana President John Agyekum-Kufuor (R) during the District investiture ceremony.

Some of the advantages of the re-districting effort include: members of the new districts can benefit from more resources such as grants by having more than one district. Other benefits are increases inter district collaboration and partnerships within districts that are still geographically close.

Re-districting is also expected to lead to improved administrative efficiency and cost savings, allowing the District leadership to better serve members and communitiesThe Rotary District 9212 Re-Districting Board will exist for a three-year term, from 9th September 2023 to 8th September 2026, and will be led by a team of dedicated and experienced Rotarians. Key members on the board include:

Initiating Governor: 2023-2024: District Governor Leonard Ithau
Chair: 2023-2024: District Governor Elect (DGE) Joe Kamau
Co-Chair: 2023-2024: District Governor Nominee (DGN) Wairimu Njage
Co-Chair:2023-2024: District Rotaract Representative (DRR) Nancy Njeri
Board Secretary and Head of the Secretariat: Past President Gichu Wahome
Rotary Country Chairs: Kenya, Ethiopia, South Sudan (current for each Rotary year) –Rotaract Country Chairs: Kenya, Ethiopia, South Sudan (current for each year)

The board also includes Past District Governors Teshome Kebede, Eric Kimani, Mohamed Aboo and Joe Otin. In addition, the countries in Rotary District 9212, Kenya, Ethiopia and South, have representatives.
