The Rotary Club of Salerno in Italy donated medical equipment to the Kilifi County Referral Hospital at the Kenyan coast.
The equipment valued at 2.1 million shillings, includes a pneumatic tourniquet, surgical loupes, delicate instruments for hand surgery and a malleable lead hand retractor.
The equipment will greatly assist in performing orthopedic surgeries at the facility, says Peter Mwarogo, who heads the Department of Health and Sanitation Services at the hospital.
Dr. Rosella Cirillo, a hand surgeon from the Rotary Club of Salerno and Rotary Club of Mombasa President Mahmoud Noorani presented the equipment. Kilifi County Referral Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Malik-ul-Ashtar and orthopedic surgeon at the facility Dr. Arif Baradia also attended the handover ceremony.
Dr. Baradia emphasized the importance of the equipment in improving precision during orthopedic surgeries and reducing blood loss. The advanced equipment is mostly found at high-end private hospitals at the Kenyan coast.
The Rotary Club of Mombasa has an established partnership with Kilifi County Referral Hospital and the Kilifi County Government. Dr. Arif Baradia, a member of the Rotary Club of Mombasa and a surgeon at the county hospital, has played a key role in facilitating this collaboration.
