Rotary Club of Ngong Hills Eventful District Governor VISIT
Thursday September 26th 2019 was a big day for the Rotary club of Ngong Hills. Probably I would call it the butterflies of expectation. It was the first time DG Joe Otin was visiting the club in his capacity as the District Governor of District 9212. It reminded me of the visiting days of high school which would elicit both emotions of joy for seeing parents after a long time and anxiety depending on the examinations performance. Anyway, after a week of planning and organizing by the club board the big day was here with us.
Exactly 5 O’clock in the evening DG Joe accompanied by the club AG Gilda, and the Country Chair Janet arrived for the meeting. You could feel and see the joy of the club members and guests as they all welcomed the team. The visit commenced with the Launch of a Bodaboda Shed that had just been built in partnership with the Club, the District, and the County government. The excitement by the Bodaboda operators was all over their face. They were so grateful that they had a place to shelter against the harsh weather and for their customers to rest as they awaited a ride.
Next came the board meeting from 6PM. Talk of insightful meeting. The DG congratulated the club on many of the milestones it had achieved. Likewise he gave us great insights on how to make the club more vibrant and how to keep it ticking. Great exchange of ideas and wisdom it was.
It was a fellowship with a difference. The room was full to capacity. The guest speaker was none other than the DG. To most members and guests it was their first time to see the DG. It was the truest elevating the game speech that left all yearning for more. DG talk from all angles.
The icing of the evening- it was an induction night for the club. Two new members Thomas and Peter were kissing goodbye to their titles of guests and welcoming the title Rotarians. They were being welcomed to the Rotary world by none other than the DG, AG and the country chair.
What an evening, calling it awesome is the least we could call it. Beyond expectation it was. La Viva Rotary!
