Liberty Children’s Home gets new hope from Rotary Madaraka
Liberty Care Centre was born out of the compassionate need to respond to the desperate plight of orphans and other children made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS who were undergoing untold suffering because of escalating poverty compounded by the devastating effects of the disease. This was a vision of the late Executive Director pastor Godfrey Muhenga who witnessed the untold pain and suffering of OVC for a long time ,having served as a religious leader in Saint W Centre in Mlolongo area.
As a minister of the gospel he began with a feeding programme for the children, where he acquired experience in dealing with children’s issues/rights. He had the passion to call to serve the needy children and would often take home some of the victims of gender based, sexual violence and severe forms of child neglect and abuse. Liberty Care Centre received the first 25 children in May 2005 through the support of friends; LCC was born with the core mission to provide the OVC with necessary support, including education, food and home based care and shelter.
Rotary club of Madaraka went to have a needs assessment on site with some of its members and donated mattresses for the home as some of the kids were sharing beds due to lack of mattresses. In future the home needs a perimeter wall, better washrooms and a permanent supply of water.
