Growing the Interact Family!
February 2020 was one of the most significant months in my tenure as President of the Rotaract Club of Ngong Hills. This was the month that my club and Rotary Club of Ngong Hills chartered two interact clubs; the Interact Club of Kenswed Secondary School and the Interact Club of Joram G M Academy.
The Interact Club of Kenswed Secondary School, chartered on February 27, 2020 has thirty-seven members while the Interact Club of Joram G.M Academy has seventeen members.
We have had several highlights, this include but are not limited to empowering my Board to train the Interact Club of Kenswed Secondary School and they did so diligently, hosting Gideon Akwabi as the guest of honour during one of the charter ceremonies who applauded our efforts and, of course the support our mother club offered us under the leadership of President Martin Miriti.
I had previously helped to charter two other Interact clubs; Interact Club of Calvary Baptist Academy when I served as the Club Service Director and the Interact Club of Huruma Children’s home when I was the Vice President.
I passionately did this because I knew that the three levels are directly intertwined yet we had not previously had any Interact clubs in Kajiado County and Kajiado North Sub Counties.
In addition, during my year as President, we had our first-ever membership walk which was held in Ngong town, the Mount Kenya pre-hike which was done at the Ngong Hills and the inaugural club awards. We also had the Kick polio with Zhumba Walk from Ngong to Karen, as well as planting tree and painting the walls of Ngong Police Station, in partnership with our mother club.
For these and other activities, the Rotaract Club of Ngong Hills received the Rotary Citation with Gold distinction and the Membership of the Year Award in the recently announced Sam Awori Awards, being the first recognitions by Rotary District 9212 since the club’s inception six years ago.
