It’s Time To Bring Transparency To District APPOINTMENTS
Planning for a District Governor’s year starts in the year when one is elected and becomes a District Governor Nominee. As part of that process, and in the penultimate year, the now District Governor Elect has to complete the build up of the team that will help him deliver on his goals for his year which also contribute towards the Strategic goals for the District and for Rotary International. I am now building up that team – the District Committee.
This year there will be an open process that to select Rotarians to serve (or continue serving) as District Officers, Country Officers or in the District Committees. Each Rotarian who wishes to start serving or to continue serving in their current position will fill in a nomination form which will have been sent to their Club President on 12th of September.
On competition of the form, the President and Secretary will sign the form to attest to the details and also to confirm that the applicant is of good standing. The form will then be scanned and sent to the DGE’s email address as indicated on the application form. Completed forms should be sent to the email by 19th September.
The DGE’s nomination team will then review the nominations against the District Officer positions applied for first and select the best suited candidate for each position. Once this is completed then the selection of those who wish to serve as Country Officers will be reviewed and selected. Finally, the selection for membership of the District Committees will be done together with the selected District Officers. Selection of members to serve on Country committees will be done by the Country Officers and the Country Chairman.
If there is no interest expressed in any specific office or committee, then the DGE will approach individuals to serve at the District and Country Officer level. For the District and Country Committees, the selected Chairs will follow a similar process to complete the selection.
It is expected that the District Level selection process will be completed within two weeks of the close of nominations.
DG Joe Otin, in preparation for his year developed some excellent position generic descriptions for the key District and Country roles. These have been uploaded on the District 9212 Website https://rotary9212.org. Rotarians wishing to be nominated are encouraged to read these before submitting their nominations.
It is my sincere hope that in approaching the selection of officers and committees this way, the process will be completely “unplugged” and that those Rotarians who wish to start or continue their journey to Rotary leadership will now have a chance to volunteer their Vocation or interest into the leadership roles.

I would like to congratulate our DGE on the transparency. System on electing the District Officials. This is highly commendable
Nice article, but it is still difficult to find out who is on which committee. Using the https://www.rotary9212.org/directory is not simple. Finding out who is for instance on the Foundation team means going through 6 or more pages. Can we not split the search terms up better.
Ian, thank you for comments and we have already embarked on improving the directory experience; the update will be released soon. The list of available offices will be shared by the DGE when the exercise begins.
