Top bank CEO attends quarters largest club meeting

Wait…wait…we didn’t see this one coming. We woke up, and a joint club meeting of Hot, happy, sassy and great was in the offing. Obviously, some good times were coming along, because Rotary Clubs of Muthaiga, Kitengela, Magharibi and Hurlingham had decided to bring on some heat.

When you have a fellowship of the greats, the wave blows everyone to its center, and that is how the joint club meeting held on Monday 29th July 2019 at Mayfair hotel went down as the biggest Rotary meeting in Kenya this first quarter of the year. Yes, it is an open challenge, out-do us if you can.

We also had the pleasure of hosting the RI Service Chair Yehudit Noteea from Israel, PDG Geeta Manek (a member of RC Muthaiga – of course); the DGE, the DGN, four Assistant Governors and Past Assistant Governors and six presidents. And when President Paul Kasimu rocks up with his red tie and a pin-stripe suit, you know something good is about to go down.

Over a hundred and fifty Rotarians, Rotaractors and Guests were in attendance. And we made it good, because we take numbers very seriously. There were gifts to be won, and wine was top on that list.

The guest speaker for the night was Equity CEO Polycarp Igathe, whose talk was about the state of the Economy in Kenya. His message was simple: We cannot afford to lose hope. Kenya’s economy has been on the rise, and to understand this better, we must look at where we have been. We have made strides which mark Kenya as one of the countries with the best indicators of growth.

Polycarp summarized the greatest threats to Kenya’s economy into two. The first being the quality of the average Kenyan Citizen whose mindset of ‘Serikali saidia’ does more harm than good. If Kenyans were to take initiative and be the best they could be, this would give the economy a much-needed boost.

The other threat is the weather, and we as a country are yet to maneuver our way around reliance on rainfall-fed agriculture. Igathe’s talk caused so much interest among the members, and questions could only be handled through some high-level tech called the ‘Mentimeter’ system. Google it….

It was indeed a phenomenal meeting. With such an invigorating talk, the meeting scored a full 10/10; with jokes, laughter, and camaraderie. Cheers to many more joint meetings. Shout out to the RC Kitengela, RC Magharibi and RC Hurlingham—we loved hosting you, you were such an exciting crowd, Karibu Tena!!

  • It was a great joint fellowship. Learnt a lot from the guest speaker and also felt the warmth of fellow Rotarians in the house. Looking forward to more exciting moments ahead. Cheers 🎊🥂🍾💕
