Data scientist takes the helm at Kitengela Rotary Club

The Rotary Club of Kitengela (RCK) held their second installation ceremony this July in an evening of glamour and pomp. President Lucy Munga and the 2019/20 board were installed over an elegant dinner at the Hilton Garden Inn presided over by the District Governor (DG) Joe Otin. The event saw RCK’s Charter President Rtn. Douglas Nyoro hand over the mantle to Rtn. Munga. President Munga is an accomplished data scientist who specializes in internal audit at the ABSA Group.

Other board members taking office are Vice President Peter Mwaura who is in NGO management, Procurement expert Treasurer Robert Njoroge, Food scientist Dr. Patrisio Njiru as P.E., Hotelier Timothy Kitenge as P.N., Projects manager George Maingi as Projects director, Sanitation expert Daniel Wanjuki heading Rotary Foundation, Anastasia Kamande a water solutions specialist as Membership director, Banker Victoria Kithuku as SAA and Assistant County Commissioner Abigail Pasiany as Youth Director.

The RCK is a fairly new kid on the block with an impressive 32 strong membership. In its first year of existence, the club embarked passionately on WASH projects in public schools in Kitengela as well as donations to a children’s home for disabled children, a medical camp and support for a local youth football team. During her acceptance speech, President Munga pledged to ensure continued community service through the club’s WASH, education and literacy projects as well as membership growth.

She reiterated the importance of having a vibrant club that will continue to foster fellowship, friendship and fun. This she said would be achieved through active participation and a feeling of belonging for all members; aptly summarized in the 2019-20 club slogan “Team work in Everything We Do”.

Echoing her sentiments on teamwork, DG Joe Otin emphasized the importance of involving every member during the implementation of the club’s strategic plan and working cohesively as a team. He further accentuated the importance of constant communication with team members as a means of inspiring action and solutions.

DG Otin additionally pointed out the significance of recognizing stellar contributions of members of the club, as being the fuel that will continue to drive volunteers towards greater achievements. He praised RCK’s strategic plan as exemplary and wished the club well in its pursuits.

The Deputy Governor of Kajiado, H.E. Martin Moshisho, who graced the event accompanied by officials from the County government, praised RCK’s efforts and pledged the County’s support in future community collaborations. Also, in attendance to support the budding club was District Membership chairman Dr. Joe Kamau and District Rotary Community Corp Chairman Joe Githinji.

District RI Convention Booth and Reception Chair, Edward Haddy who was the Master of Ceremonies, actively engaged the crowd and led a successful auction that raised money towards the club’s projects. The evening of celebration finally drew to a close with the Rotary Club of Kitengela members sharing a cake baked by one of their own. The members then led a dance, filled with hope and enthusiasm towards the beginning of their second chapter of its existence.
