‘Tis The Season To Give

Dear Rotary family,

Happy Holidays!

As we come to a close of the end of the year, we find ourselves at the intersection of reflection, celebration, and gratitude. This week I visited the largest club in our District; Rotary Club of Langata which marked the 137th out of 141 Rotary clubs in our District that I have visited since August. I am thankful that I have witnessed first hand the sheer dedication and impact of community service project by our clubs during my official club visits.

DG Leonard Ithau with President Muchai of the Rotary Club of Langata and club member.

December is Rotary Disease and Prevention: This month, our focus extends to our commitment to healthcare and wellness. Healthcare is a fundamental right, yet 400 million people lack access to basic healthcare worldwide. Recently, our District forged a transformative partnership, signing a historic Memorandum of Understanding with Davis & Shirtliff. This collaboration will evaluate and execute water and energy projects, significantly impacting communities in Kenya and preventing illnesses caused by poor sanitation.

‘Tis The Season To Give : The Rotary Foundation transforms your gifts into service projects that change lives both close to home and around the world.  I would like to appreciate our members for continuing to give to the Foundation via our Jenga Foundation via our ussd portal *835*90# even after our successful Foundation Dinners held in Nairobi and Western Regions.

To this end, was delighted to extend the Paul Harris Fellow matching payment deadline to end of November. If you haven’t already done so, please honor your pledges and continue to contribute to the Rotary Foundation.

3. Holiday Celebrations:

December is a month of celebrations! From the Christians celebration of the birth of Jesus, to the holiday mood, it’s a great time to take stock of the year and celebrate achievements. We have prepared fun events to celebrate together.  I would like to extend a welcome  to our celebratory events this month:

  • Christmas Dinner: Join me on December 8 at the Karen Golf and Country Club for the Half-Year Golf and Christmas Celebrations. Play golf, celebrate achievements, and enjoy networking. Bring your family, friends, and colleagues for a day of fun. For sponsorship inquiries, contact Rotary District Executive Secretary Janet Mathenge at dsecretary@rotary9212.org.
  • Family of Rotary Fun Days: Nairobi Region’s event is on December 12, and the Western Region on December 15. Join us at JKUAT, Karen Campus Grounds for a festive celebration with creative crafts, bouncing castles, Christmas carols, Santa Claus, gift exchanges, and more. Let’s come together as a Rotary family to make this season special.

4. Club Elections: December also marks the season for preparing our club leaders for the next Rotary year. As you hold club elections, I urge you all to align with governance and ethics regulations, selecting leaders who embody our cause and values.

5. DCA Registration: Have you registered for the Magical Watamu District Conference to be held from April 25-28, 2024 yet? Register at https://dca2024.rotary9212.org/ and take advantage of travel offers and exclusive discounts via Air, Road, and Rail.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and joyous holidays to you and your loved ones. May this season be filled with gratitude and giving.
