The Joy of Inducting New Members
August is here and it marks membership month which is to be observed across the district 9212 However, for us at RC Nairobi Industrial Area we started the month by welcoming five new members, it was a time to celebrate. We were not celebrating the growth but the wealth that the new members possessed. Three gentlemen and two ladies, what a way to balance the equation. It was the difference in vocations that was quite commendable. One was from Legal, another from ICT, another from Engineering, Marketing and Medicine. Now, that is the kind of diversification a club needs. The right DNA mix that Rotary would benefit from.
George was a former interact who transitioned to rotaract and now that he is in his 30s he has made a decision to continue serving the community through Rotary.
Kelvin was also a rotactor in his hay days and was now up for the next chapter. He has already hit the road running in projects, he is very self driven.
Collins found us through our social media platform, what are the odds? Once he came for the first meeting he never stopped. He became a familiar face; always ready to contribute to our discussions you would have easily mistaken him for a Rotarian.
As for Janet she was invited by a friend and from her first visit she never missed a meeting. I remember her exact words when I talked to her on day one “I have found a home”
Now Patricia made us feel like proud parents, she was transitioning from our rotact club of Management University. All the mentorship had finally paid off and she is our testimony. It was easy to assign them to committees that were aligned to their strengths. They each got a mentor to guide and led them in their journey.
As demonstrated, increasing membership can be achieved through different initiatives. Invite, Invite, Invite, constantly telling your rotary story through all social media platforms and engage your rotaractors, let them feel they have a place they can turn to when they need to. We have not stopped there; we are still looking for new members as we engage our members. Everyone has something to contribute in one way or another and the more we are the strong we will be.
