How to start a tree planting weekly program in your club

  1. Join the environment champions group – Contact Pres. Mburu Machua on 0722879409
  2. Identify an area in your sub county to green public spaces by 10% as recommended by UN.
  3. Get in touch with Coordinator Mburu Machua to set up a sustainable tree nursery for a constant supply of seedlings both indigenous and fruit trees, assistance in identifying sub counties and local community groups and county government

23 Points to a holistic approach in Environmental Conservation

  1. Setting up nurseries for indigenous, fruit and bamboo trees
  2. Aggressively planting seedlings along our rivers, roads, schools amongst other public spaces
  3. Actual cleaning of rivers which are in a terrible state
  4. Recycling and making composite manure from organic waste
  5. Water harvesting, storage and recycling in public schools and other institutions
  6. Promoting renewable energy e.g. Briquettes, Biogas, Solar energy, Wind energy
  7. Setting up waste bins in public spaces (Biodegradable, Plastic and paper)
  8. Encouraging a paperless society
  9. Promoting alternative building materials e.g. steel, plastic, bamboo etc
  10. Promoting Environment friendly farming methods
  11. Promoting cycling in urban areas
  12. Encouraging people to embrace cremation
  13. Working with National and County Assemblies to enact global acceptable legislations on environment
  14. Working with Judiciary to set environment courts in every County
  15. Massive environment advocacy
  16. Benchmarking on best environmental practices locally, regionally and globally
  17. Promote best practices in disposal of waste materials
  18. Setting up environment clubs in schools to create environment champions
  19. Shaming and pushing National and County Governments to prosecute people who are polluting the environment
  20. Fencing endangered wetlands and forests
  21. Encouraging removal of harmful trees such as blue gum, eucalyptus etc. We are working closely with local communities particularly those living next to rivers.
    We equally are supporting their economic programs and sports for sustainability; meanwhile seeking Environment Champions from different Rotary clubs, Rotaractors, Interactors, family, friends and other stakeholders to make this a success.

N/B
We are required to plant at least 2 billion seedlings between now and 2022 to reach the recommended tree cover of 10% by UNEP. Failure is not an option since respiratory diseases caused by pollution has become the number 1 killer in our urban areas as reported by the World Health Organisation.
