Rotarians, Rotaractors at Kenyan Coast Hold Blood Drive, Membership Recruitment
MOMBASA, Kenya – In a remarkable show of community spirit and commitment to humanitarian causes, the Rotary Clubs of Mombasa Nyali and Bamburi, along with the Rotaract Club of Youth Zone, joined forces to conduct a dual mission at the City Mall Nyali. The August initiative aimed to boost club membership and raise awareness about the essential work of Rotary.
Under the leadership of Dr. Winfred Kithinji, President of the Rotary Club of Mombasa Nyali, and Membership Director Nabil Adamjee, Rotarians from the coastal region gathered to interact with the public and engage with potential Rotarians. This collaborative effort was part of Rotary’s global theme for August, which focused on growing club membership and increasing visibility within the community.
The highlight of the event was the simultaneous blood donation drive, in collaboration with the Kenya Red Cross Society and the Coast Teaching and Referral Hospital’s blood bank in Mombasa. The response from the community was overwhelming, with a significant turnout of Rotarians, mall visitors, and City Mall staff eager to contribute to this life-saving cause.
Approximately 22 donors generously gave blood, reaffirming the community’s commitment to helping those in need. Alongside the blood donation drive, the Rotarians and Rotaractors tirelessly promoted Rotary’s mission and values, sparking interest among potential members.
The results of the membership drive were equally encouraging. Thirteen individuals expressed a strong interest in joining the Rotary Club of Mombasa Nyali, while Bamburi welcomed 16 potential new members. The Rotaract Club of Youth Zone also witnessed a surge in interest, with nine individuals eager to become part of their dynamic community.
