Rotaract Club of the University of Embu Becomes a Reality
Rotary International formally chartered the Rotaract Club of University of Embu on June 30, 2023, following a a momentous endeavour by The Rotary Club of Embu.
The effort was spearheaded by the partnership of Prof. Eucharia Kenya, the current President of the Rotary Club of Embu and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Planning Administration & Finance) at the University of Embu, alongside Rotarian David Njoroge, the Immediate Past President of the Rotary Club of Embu.
The genesis of the Rotaract Club of the University of Embu can be traced back to October 2022 when a vibrant inaugural fellowship took place. This gathering captivated over 50 students who would later become the charter members of the Club. While in-formation the Rotaract Club conducted successful elections, ultimately entrusting Murithi Antony with the presidency. A prerequisite for the Club’s charter was active engagement in various projects dedicated to the service of humanity.
The Club collaborated with Rotary Club of Embu and other clubs in Embu to visit the Embu women’s prison. The objective was to bring Christmas gifts, offer emotional support, foster personal growth, provide invaluable mentorship, and above all, exemplify unity.
In January 2023, the Club conducted a mentorship program at a secondary school within the Embu region, focusing on education and sanitation as prominent areas of concern for Rotary. The Rotaractors in-waiting imparted invaluable guidance to the students, providing information on diverse career paths and generously donating sanitary towels.
By championing menstrual hygiene and embracing Rotary’s noble cause, they left an indelible mark. Additionally, the Club actively participated in the Rotary Sunshine rally event hosted at Kirinyaga University in March. This notable event brought together children with special needs from diverse backgrounds, casting aside their challenges and replacing them with radiant smiles and unbridled joy.
Conscious of the imperative to mitigate the adverse consequences of climate change and augment forest cover, the Club embraced the International Water Day by undertaking a tree-planting campaign. This was done in collaboration with various organizations, resulting in the planting of over 300 trees at a local primary school.
The Club has consistently engaged in community clean-up campaigns and other initiatives. Through their impactful projects, profound fellowship, and steadfast dedication to addressing matters such as education, sanitation and climate change, the Club has exemplified the transformative power of Rotary both within the University and beyond. Let Rotary’s motto, “Service Above Self,” inspire one and all.
