RC North Coast, Rotary Community Corp Undertake Needs Assessments in Kenya’s Kilifi County

Rotary Club of North Coast and a Rotary Community Corp known as Mbazizo Community Organization have partnered with primary schools, the local and county administration in Bamba to conduct needs assessments for projects.
Through the partnerships, the club conducted a second needs assessment, following the first one conducted earlier in the year. A random sample of 60 homes was selected to participate in one-on-one interviews, focused group discussion and general observation of the homes and environment of the people of Bamba, in Kilifi County.
Half of the participants took part in a focused group discussion at the offices of Mbazizo, which is a self-help group for differently abled people in Bamba. The partners undertaking the needs assessment visited the remaining 30 homes for observation and one-on-one interviews with the occupants.
“The objective of this need analysis was to get a clarification of the type of agricultural activity to be involved in as well as the expected outcomes and challenges during the implementation of the selected activity,’’ according to the Rotary Club of North Coast.
The assessment identified access to water and kitchen gardening as the top priorities for the residents of Bamba. Related needs include training, support and input for the kitchen gardening. RC North Coast and the Rotary Club of Brest from France will use the information to develop a project to provide a solution for the residents’ needs.
