PDG Geeta Scores Another FIRST!
Our district has received the news of Past District Governor Dr. Geeta K. Manek’s election as TRF Trustee with tremendous pride and joy. Dr Geeta’s dedication and commitment to Rotary is unmatched and she has risen to the highest ranks as the first and only Lady Governor in our district and now to the coveted role in The Rotary Foundation.
Born in the late 1950’s in Thompson’s Falls (Nyahururu), Kenya, Dr. Geeta remains a force to reckon with in our District 9212.
After attending junior school in Nairobi, Dr. Geeka relocated to England for higher education. She attended a Business School in London, majoring in Business Studies with emphasis in Advertising and Marketing and minored in Tourism and Public Relations. It was during her college days that she acquired the flavor and an aptitude for entrepreneurship having worked in boutiques and department stores in high-street(s) of central London as well as interning at an advertising agency.
Upon completing her studies in Business, she returned to Kenya in 1978 and joined the family business in Kenya, which ranges from retailing to property management and development. Since then, having contributed tremendously towards the growth of the business ventures as well as expanded the property and asset holding of the family concern. She continues to be actively involved with all the facets of the family business concerns.
Dr. Geeka has been a member of the Rotary Club of Muthaiga since 1997 where she has served in many leadership roles not only as President of her home Club, but also in many capacities within the Country and the District, and on many project task force committees and at the International level. She has traversed the globe with Rotarians on the Rotary Service.
As she carries out her duties with the mandate from Rotarians around the world, we feel that she also represents us in Africa, and builds upon the legacy of the late Sam Owori who also hailed from East Africa. Rotarians on the continent of Africa are now perfectly represented by Vice President Yinka Babalola and Trustee Elect Geeta Manek who have our fullest and continuous support.
