The County Government of Mombasa will undertake joint projects and collaborate with Rotary clubs in hosting the Sunshine rally, an annual Rotary initiative that brings together children living with disabilities.

“My administration shall work with the clubs to achieve the main objective of service to humanity – in the community, in the workplace and throughout the world with seven key areas of focus,’’ the Governor of Mombasa County Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir said.

Rotary 9212 District Governor (DG) Leonard Ithau inducted the County Governor as an honorary member of the Rotary club of Mombasa during a courtesy call to his office in September. The District Governor was on a tour of Rotary clubs at the Kenyan coast and interacted with 13 Rotary and 14 Rotaract clubs.

During the coastal tour, the Rotary Club of Mombasa, in collaboration with other Rotary and Rotaract clubs from Mombasa and Nairobi, participated in a joint project at Makanzani Village. Thanks to their dedicated efforts and invaluable partners, the club has successfully established an ICT center equipped with 20 computers for local students. Additionally, they have provided five sewing machines, constructed new classrooms and toilets, and established the Makanzani clinic.

The Rotary Club of Kilifi had the honor of hosting DG Ithau for a special coast cluster project visit at Mnarani Primary School. The project is an ongoing feeding program for the special needs unit, now in its fourth month.

The project is the result of a collaborative effort between Mnarani Aid and the club, ensuring monthly meals for the special needs children. Donations from Mnarani Aid are complemented by contributions from the Rotary Club of Kilifi and friends of the club.

During his visit, the DG Ithau actively participated in the donation drive, underlining his commitment to these meaningful endeavors. He witnessed the progress of an ongoing renovation program for special needs classrooms at the school. The initial phase involved repairs to the dilapidated classroom roof, with further improvements planned for the floor, blackboard, and overall classroom aesthetics. Fundraising initiatives to support these efforts are currently underway.

The visit highlighted the establishment of a sustainable kitchen garden at the school. This garden serves the vital purpose of ensuring the long-term sustainability of the feeding program. Guests in attendance participated in watering the plants, symbolizing their dedication to this noble cause.
Rotary Club of Kilifi intends to collaborate with interested clubs across the coastal region, with the aim of scaling up these projects and extending similar initiatives to other schools in the area through joint District and global grant applications.
