At the heart and the back of every mind of service is Legacy.
Impact defines Legacy and October is one of those month that warms my heart and brings a tear to my eye in equal measure.

What does October mean to you?
To me October is an opportunity to redefine our legacy, in many ways to wind the clock with arrowed monomaniacal focus. Intentionally shifting the economical landscape by protecting the children in our communities with a single drop.

For Rotary International October means economic empowerment month and most importantly celebration of world polio day on 24th October 2019.

On Friday 27th September 2019 we as District 9212 in collaboration with Rotary International (RI) reenergized our resolve to ensure the eradication of the wild polio virus. We called on partners to rejuvenate the Polio Endgame Campaign by contributing towards vaccinating all children under the age of five(5).

First and foremost is to elucidate the battle we are fighting, what is polio? Poliomyelitis is a highly infectious disease that most commonly affects children under the age of 5. We commonly refer to is as the poliovirus. The virus is spread person to person, typically through contaminated water. It can attack the nervous system, and more often than not leads to paralysis. Although there is no cure, there is a safe and effective vaccine – one which Rotary and our partners have used to immunize over 2.5 billion children worldwide.

More than ever, we as the Rotary family believe that the goal of a polio free world is within grasp and attainable in the very near future and we need your help to make this a reality.

How serious is this?

Polio is only a flight and / or a bus ride away. Unless we eradicate polio, within 10 years, as many as 200,000 new cases could occur around around the world each year. In the past few years, only two countries have reported cases of polio caused by the wild virus, but no child anywhere is safe until we’ve vaccinated every child.

How can you Help?

As District 9212, we have an amazing opportunity PayBill; 891300 A/C POLIO where you can make as little as Kshs 100 donation to help eradicate polio. For every dollar you give Rotary International Matches it and in turn the Bill and Melinda foundation matches that contribution. As we aim to raise one (1) million dollars together we will have paved the way to reach and vaccinate eighteen (18) million children.
