Leaders of Rotary and Toastmasters agree to collaborate

The leaders of Rotary District 9212 and Toastmasters District 114 held discussions that focused on the international partnership between the two organization and cascading the elaborate benefits to the local members.

Rotary’s District Governor Joe Otin and Toastmaster’s District Director Harry Karanja met today 9thAugust 2019 and agreed on a proposal to work in collaboration around communications and leadership skills development with the view of enhancing the personal development of their members. 

“Comprehensive deliberations around the Rotary and Toastmasters partnership are scheduled at the Toastmasters international convention in Denver next week, and we expect that the leaders will encourage decisive action at the grassroots,” said Toastmaster’s District Director Harry.

In the proposed agreement, both organizations will incorporate leaders and speakers from the other organization in their conferences and training seminars. They will also develop a co-branded public speaking course based on the Speech Craft Toastmasters programme.

“Both organizations have strong reputations around the world and a partnership of this type must be action oriented if it is to deliver tangible benefits to the members,” said DG Joe. The leaders are expected to sign an MoU at district level by the beginning of September 2019.

The District Governor was accompanied by Rotary’s District Trainer Antoinette Absaloms and the Rotary Club of Industrial Area’s Club President Juliana Wanjiru, while District Director Harry was accompanied by the District Membership Development Director Anthony Wangondu.

Rotary is a global voluntary humanitarian service club with 2,400 members in district 9212 that covers Kenya, Ethiopia, South Sudan and Eritrea. Toastmaster is global organization that develops communication and leadership skills in their members and in District 114 they have 1,300 members in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda.
