Kirinyaga Rotary’s future set with new expert leadership
It was the 6th day of July 2019. The sun had risen on the glorious Mt. Kenya after what had been many days of chilly mornings – it was going to be a good day. All roads led to the foot of Mt. Kenya – Kirinyaga County where the Installation of the new president of the Rotary Club of Kirinyaga and the 2019 /2020 Board was scheduled to take place before sunset.
Family and friends of Rotary came from far and wide and there was representation from the Rotary Clubs of Murang’a, Embu, Nyeri, Karatina, Tharaka Nithi, Karen, Nairobi East, Naivasha, Lavington, Madaraka, Thika, Thika West, Thika Road, and Rotaract Clubs of Kirinyaga University and Thika Technical.
The incoming sixth president of the Rotary Club of Kirinyaga was introduced by her brother also a Rotarian Dr. Mark Ndung’ u. He described his sister, as a woman who wore her heart on her sleeve, was passionate about relationships with her community, and family. He also acknowledged and thanked her for introducing him to Rotary where he has used his vocation, time and resources to do well in service above self. The club`s theme for the year would be Fellowship, Family, Fun, and Service.
President Liz Njoroge is a trained lawyer from the University of Nairobi with an additional management degree from Kenyatta University and is a specialist in public policy and Administration. In her acceptance speech, she exalted the fellow Rotarians to answer to the clarion call of elevating their games through an enhanced commitment to service and a dedication to the cause and vision that the club has for the 2019/2020 Rotary year.
The installation was presided over by Past District Governor Harry Mugo who was the president’s sponsor to Rotary and the chief Guest was Past District Governor Peter Mbui. The chief guest shared the benefits and joy of being a Rotarian, encouraged members to elevate their game through prompt payment of dues, participation in projects, and challenged the new Board to secure a global grant and seek for qualification for District Grants.
Overall, it was a FUN installation with lots of local brew “Muratina” flowing to facilitate the process. We look forward to a fantastic year ahead. Viva Rotary!
