By Pauline Awuor
On February 8, the Coast Region held its annual Rotary Sunshine Rally, a heartwarming event that brought joy to more than 2,500 children with disabilities from six coastal counties. This marked a significant increase from last year’s 500 beneficiaries, highlighting the growing impact of the initiative.
With Mombasa Cement as the major sponsor, the event provided a day filled with fun, mentorship, education, and entertainment for children from 19 special needs schools. An exciting lineup of activities—including music, dancing, acrobatics, and bouncing castles—ensured the children had an unforgettable experience.
The event’s success was made possible through the support of 18 dedicated partners, whose growing commitment continues to empower children with disabilities. As the Sunshine Rally expands, Rotary and Mombasa Cement reaffirmed their dedication to complementing government efforts in supporting children with special needs, fostering a more inclusive society.
Distinguished guests at the event included Governor of Lamu County Issa Timamy, Immediate Past District Governor Leonard Ithau, Past Governor Peter Mbui and District Governor Dr. Joe Kamau among others. In his address, Dr. Kamau emphasized the importance of inclusivity, ensuring that children with disabilities feel valued and loved.
“This Sunshine Rally brings together kids with disabilities to show them that they are loved, wanted, and to inspire and give them hope,’’ Dr. Kamau said.
He also recognized Mombasa Cement for being the platinum sponsor of the event, which took place at Shree Hasmukh Kanji Premji Budhai Memorial Hall in Nyali.
The Sunshine Rally continues to be a symbol of hope, advocating for inclusivity, love, and empowerment for children with disabilities across Kenya. With its growing reach and impact, the event brings together communities, partners, and well-wishers to create a brighter future for these children.
