Kenyan Coast Holds Its Maiden Sunshine Rally
By Pauline Awuor
The first-ever Rotary Sunshine Rally at the Kenyan Coast, which was hosted at Light International School Mombasa, was a remarkable success with the participation of 591 children and the contribution of 120 caregivers from nine schools.
The Rotary Sunshine Rally is a flagship project of Rotary District 9212, catering for differently abled children since its inception by the Manu Chandaria Foundation in 1979. With the 2024 theme of “A Day in the Sun,” the Rotary Sunshine Rally aligns with our core values of inclusiveness, unity, and impact, aiming to foster equality by facilitating meaningful exchanges among people from vastly different socio-economic backgrounds.
Activities ranged from chess and robotics to engaging in paintings and health checkups, culminating in shared meals that created unforgettable memories. During the event, the Rotary Club of Kilindini generously donated reams of braille paper to support the students of Likoni School for the Blind.
Rotary District 9212 Governor Leonard Ithau and District Rotaract Representative Nancy Njeri, along with other Rotarians from different regions, attended the event.
Sabrina, one of the trustees, expressed her appreciation for the Coast Rotary team for creating a memorable experience for the children during the Sunshine Rally event. A heartfelt thank you goes out to our 31 partners and sponsors for their support through various networks.
The Rotary Foundation Dinner
Still at the Kenyan Coast, Rotary and Rotaract clubs in the region hosted The Rotary Foundation diner at Chamiachi Hotel in Nyali, Mombasa.
