District Governor 2022-23
Fellow Rotarians,
I trust that this email finds you well. Following the formal meeting of the Nominating Committee of District Governor 2022-23 held this afternoon, it is my distinct pleasure to introduce to you the District Governor Nominee Designate.
Azeb Asrat of the Rotary Club of Addis Ababa West has been elected as the District Governor for 2022-23. Rotarian Azeb has had an exemplary career as a Rotarian and currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Rotary Ethiopia Board. Previously she served as the Rotary Ethiopia Country Chair in 2018-19 and as Club President of the Rotary Club of Addis Ababa West in 2017-18. She is also a multiple Paul Harris Fellow having contributed significantly to The Rotary Foundation.
In 2012, Azeb retired from the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) after a stelar 28 year career, which included a two year stint in the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). During her time in these roles she has held senior leadership positions such as Deputy Country Director in Sri Lanka and Sudan; Senior Regional Programme Advisor for East, Central and Southern African Countries; Regional Programme Coordinator for South East Asian Countries; Emergency Coordinator in Bosnia Hercegovina; and Project Officer in Ethiopia.
Azeb holds a Bachelors’ Degree in Personnel Management and Administrative Sciences from the Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia and has attained various professional skills qualifications in Monitoring and Evaluation, Humanitarian Coordination, Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation, and Project Management.
She has been happily married to Getachew Haile for 40 years and they have 3 beautiful children and 4 grand children.
I take this opportunity to heartily congratulate District Governor Nominee Designate Azeb Asrat on the occasion of her election and to ask for God’s blessing to adorn and support her in her next step in Rotary leadership.
