A Little Memo: Rotaract Ethiopia Country Chair
By Natnael T. Belachew
“The movement and the future of it is much bigger than your present.”
This is a line that got me to pause and think about everything all at once. It’s a simple line that brought sense to the turmoil I found in myself while having a conversation with a fellow Rotaractor miles away, and he mentioned it.
Currently, I feel a bit overworked and exhausted by a lot. The responsibilities seem like a burden, and the joy of serving is overshadowed by a hopeless quest of chasing after balance and peace. But to what end?
Sometimes it feels like everything is pointless, and honestly, it’s okay. The attempts we consciously make to do the right thing might bring causalities that make us feel like we’re not giving it our best shot, and there are times when we don’t listen to reason and proof from ourselves.
But dear reader, aspiring or acting leader, you’re not alone. One thing I’ve proven to myself is that you have support, people who would share a burden with you and stand by you to figure it all out, with you. And I believe that’s what makes and shapes us to become better. No one has done it alone, and it’s okay to ask for help.
And more importantly, the reassurance you need, that you’re on the right path, that you’re doing the right thing even if it’s at the cost of your current peace of mind, is far greater than moving forward with doubt and the uncertainty none of us can change.
What has you occupied right now, clouding your good judgment or clear perspective, will pass. And when it does, that’s when you’ll realize how simple and ridiculous it all was. So have that hope that you’re afraid to hold on to, because not everything is everlasting. Might as well hope to see and do better, to bring the change you want to see.
