POEM: RC Kitengela Spreads Hope to Childrens’ Homes
By Caroline Njiru
RCK went up a hill- no make that 7, to fetch a pile of hope Up the Ngong hills they heaved and hoed, twas no joke! Wiping their sweaty brows, on the rock they tried to grope And fundraised among friends, who shared despite being broke All to spread some love, to those desperately trying to cope Like the innocent children, affected by the Covid pandemic yoke Now the day was nigh, to the Divine Providence Home they went Through the dusty Kitengela terrain, they bore the sweltering heat To the homely orphanage, a serene refuge on the earth we are lent. Rotary Club of Kitengela arrived, bearing gifts and food to eat And planted some trees as well, an ode to the environment Then bade goodbye sweet Sister Ujwala, the babies’ guardian truly God sent.
Then off to the industrial Athi River, to the Bondeni Children’s home Run by the Gitaus, the rescuers with the hearts of gold Who saved the kids from they streets that they no longer roam Fed them, loved them and brought them into the fold Now they belted out such beautiful songs, that the Rotarians had to write a poem So that the memories of the day, in their hearts forever they could hold Chanting their motto, “Unlimited Through Team Work!” The RC Kitengela members called it a day, and vowed to be back. As they went home they prayed, “Oh Lord and Giver of all good, During this Covid period, we thank thee for our daily food That we are able to share, through the wonderful Rotary Ways. Give us good health, so that we can serve thee all our days.”
