Rotaract Club of Muthaiga Installs 24th Club President

Rotaract clubs bring together people ages 18 and older to exchange ideas with leaders in the community, develop leadership and professional skills, and have fun through service. In communities worldwide, Rotary and Rotaract members work side by side to take action through service. Rotaract club of Muthaiga recently celebrated the installation of the club’s 6th president and board of directors.

The Legacy Night! – Just like the name suggests, this wasn’t just any celebration! It was a momentous occasion marking 24 years of remarkable success and a vibrant rebirth of Rotaract Club of Muthaiga. Further, it was a special night for installing the Club’s newly elected president- Lisa and inducting new members of the club as well.

The event was held on 31st May, 2024 at Qaribu Inn Hotel and was led by Deputy County Chair Steve Maina from the Rotaract club of Nairobi Central and Jade Salatt from the Rotaract Club of Embakasi.

In attendance were special guests including DRR Nancy Njeri and DGN Wairimu Njage. The Rotaract Club of Muthaiga also hosted 4 legendary past presidents of the club namely; President Peter Njonjo, President Benard Kiraithe, President Edwin Aisema, and President Mary Kalunde.

Now if you missed the legacy night event, you sure did miss out on many fun moments, including meeting the 4 legendary presidents of the club tracing back to the early 2000s. But not to worry, I’m here to fill you up on how the event unfolded. Stick around!

The old money dresscode set the perfect tone for the celebration, infusing the night with an air of timeless elegance that highlighted 24 years of remarkable success and enduring legacy.

The event kick started with guests being served a warm welcoming meal to enjoy while enjoying the slow music which set the perfect mood to connect and reminisce. Later in the night, the two Mcs took over introducing the main agenda of the event.

Given the event was all about celebrating the 24 years of success, past presidents gathered to share inspirational stories of their journeys within the Rotaract Club of Muthaiga.

Each leader recounted personal experiences and the challenges they faced, painting vivid pictures of their tenures. A common theme emerged: the critical importance of fundraising. They emphasized how securing funds was pivotal in driving the club’s numerous community impact projects, enabling them to make tangible differences in the lives of many. The main highlight on this aspect was how the club managed to donate $1000 plus to TRF in the year 2008-20009.

Additionally, the presidents spoke about the strategies they employed to attract new members (look within your circle of friends), highlighting how fresh perspectives and new energies are vital for the club’s continued growth and dynamism. They also underscored the value of creating and nurturing long-lasting friendships within the club, which not only enriches the members’ personal lives but also strengthens the club’s social fabric. Delegating tasks effectively was another key point, ensuring that the club runs smoothly and that every member has a meaningful role.

Next was the fun part-the induction of new members. 4 prospering members namely Elvis, Frances, Obidiah, Wame, Nick and Natasha were inducted by the DRR Nancy Njeri and DGN Wairimu Njage. This ceremony was filled with excitement and hope as fresh faces joined the Rotaract Club of Muthaiga, ready to contribute to its legacy.

Following the inductions, the club proceeded to reward active members with certificates, recognizing their unwavering commitment and dedication. Certificates were presented to these outstanding individuals (Josh and Natasha Manda)

Finally, it was time for the most awaited celebration—the installation of President Lisa. The room buzzed with anticipation as Lisa, radiant in her “Old Money” attire, took the stage to accept her new role. Her speech was a heartfelt reflection on her journey within the Rotary family, which began as a young charter member and evolved through her tenure as a director of the Rotaract Club of Kitengala. This journey, she shared, has been one of continuous growth and learning, shaping her into a dedicated leader ready to steer the club toward new heights.

Lisa passionately spoke about her vision for the coming year, rooted in the Rotary International Theme: The Magic of Rotary. She emphasized her belief in the power of turning dreams into reality and creating lasting changes in communities and the world at large. Her personal theme, “Be Iconic,” called on all members to stand out, be beacons of excellence, and set standards others aspire to achieve.

In her address, Lisa highlighted several key goals for the year. These included membership growth and retention, increased donations to the Rotary Foundation, the development of PR activities and training, larger and more active community service involvement, increased corporate partnerships, and finally, member value addition. She articulated a clear, inspiring vision that resonated with the audience, promising a dynamic and impactful year ahead.

As applause filled the room, it was clear that Lisa’s installation marked not just a change in leadership but a reaffirmation of the Rotaract Club of Muthaiga’s commitment to excellence and community service.

Legacy Night concluded with live music that filled the air with joy and celebration. Members and guests danced and mingled, their spirits high and hearts full. The event ended on a happy note, leaving everyone inspired and excited for the future, celebrating 24 years of remarkable success and camaraderie.
