THE SUMMIT

The summit was characterized by many guests from various Rotary clubs and their friends. As the E card had described it was to begin at 7.00 pm but guests and panelists (IPPs) begun spilling in at 5.30 pm to the clubs excitement. These opened up to an upbeat and in depth mingle. The guests were seated and eager to see what the evening would unfold.

The sound of the Gong commenced the meeting. Introduction of both Rotarians and guests begun and thereafter Rotarian Matthew took it away. The probing gave way to a discussion that was enlightening and insightful.

Topics discussed ranged and touched on vast experiences

  • How to grow membership;  a prominent feature from all the panelists was that clubs need to go outside the box and customize meetings to interesting ones that members look forward to attending.
  • How to ensure 100% participation; Clubs were urged to delegate and involve all members by identifying member’s interests and strong features. The right fit ensures effective participation.
  • What to when board members fallout; it was an observation that at times the board may become incomplete due to various reasons. The presidents were advised to seek assistance from IPPs and PPs and the other club members so as to ensure club activities do not stall. It was also stressed the importance of cohesion with in  board members and have communication lines that ensure all board members can communicate their concerns and feedback given promptly.
  • The issue of kitchen cabinets was also discussed and clubs urged to have then at a minimal. It was however observed to be a tool that a president could use in times when some activities needed special input.
  • Fundraising; clubs were urged to use creative all inclusive ways of raising funds for project. Motivation of members through incentives was one of the ways club could use to improve PHFs and other fundraising initiatives.

The summit was very enlightening more so for new club and new presidents as it touched on many insights including Swallow ships and socials. The diverse views of the panelists and the senior Rotarians in the audience gave a wide range of rich tools that can strengthen and grow the clubs while elevating their game as they serve beyond self.
