Rotary Club of Hurlingham Contributes to Sustainable Growth and Health of Shangilia Children Home in KANGEMI

Rotary Club of Hurlingham (RCH) recently visited Shangilia Children’s Home in Kangemi, Nairob which they have had a relationship for the last two years. The club donated a variety of dry foodstuffs, books, clothes and members also took time to plant fruit trees for the orchard.

Speaking during the visit, President Frank Masinde said, “We are happy to contribute to the sustainable growth of Shangilia Children’s Home. We are optimistic that this will lead to improved health for the children , and a better environment for all. The home will also be able to sell harvested fruits for additional  cash flow which is sustainable and well aligned with Rotary’s vision of acting and impacting society in a positive and sustainable way.”

Projects Committee Member, Veronica Ndumbi noted, “Rotary Club of Hurlingham recognizes the importance of the environment and is contributing to this in a unique way to Shangilia Mtoto wa Africa Center by planting over 50 fruit trees which will conserve the environment and provide nutritional value. Our relationship with the home started in August 2018 when the club planted a few fruits along the fence.  This is also teaching the children environmental conservation.”

A representative from the home, Mr.Ken, said they are grateful for the support and goodwill received from the Club, noting that the gifts were timely.

Rotaractors and a team from Azarias Foundation also joined the visit where they made chapatis, danced and played with the children.
