DisCon 2020 RESTORING school facilities in Mwiki, Kasarani
Each year, friends and family of Rotary in District 9212 (Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea and South Sudan) meet for the Annual District Conference Assembly (Discon). The 95th DisCon comes to Nairobi, Kenya- the city under the sun- on 2nd to 4th April, 2020 at the Sarit Expo Center, Nairobi.
The District Conference is marked with various activities including a school rehabilitation project at St. Dominic Primary School in Mwiki, Kasarani. St. Dominic’s is a public primary school that has a massive number of 2,085 students and 34 teachers on staff. The students come from the surrounding neighborhood such as Learners catchment area is Mwiki, Kasarani, Njiru, Githurai, Utawala and Babadogo.
The school was identified through a thorough needs assessment that identified key areas that needed urgent attention and Rotary clubs in District 9212 have banded together to address these needs. The guardians and parents are casual laborers without disposable income to pay for school development and the support received from the local government went into renovating part of the school building’s leaking roofs.
The urgent needs of St. Dominic school include restoring the strained pit latrines, building a wash area and restoring the rundown classrooms. In partnering with the local county government, Rotary clubs want to promote the quality of education through improved, clean & safe environment for learners and staff.
The project will be flagged off on March 31st 2020 during the Discon 2020 with the painting of some of the school’s classrooms and the rehabilitation of the school will commence thereafter.
This is a mid-term project that requires local and international partnerships to support the project goals. For more information on how you can be a project partner.
