Achieving Greater Satisfaction Through Polio ERADICATION

Imagine your worst enemy shrunk down and put inside your body, the damage that it can do!Imagine being on fire yet no one can see the fire, so they don’t believe you are in agony. Imagine going to school on fire or driving home on fire, a literal thorn in you flesh. A monster is inside me, fighting me within my bones and marrow, vessel and organs. We didn’t choose this suit, there wasn’t anything we did wrong, we simply were born like everyone else though polio choose to make a home in us

Following the Rotary Foundation plan to eradicate polio, The Rotaract Club of Ngong Hills held a charity walk on 5th October 2019 which focus on raising funds for the polio. The walk was open to all rotaracters and friends and approximately 70 people were in attendance. During the walk the attendees shared opinion, thoughts and suggestion on the various ways and activities we can engage in order to raise more funds.

The walk started at PEC Guest House in Ngong to Karen Village. We had a stop over at Zambia boda-boda shed which was donated by Rotary Club of Ngong Hills as part of the walk. We had the opportunity to engage the public and speak about the effects of Polio in our society and the plans that Rotary International have in order to eradicate the disease.

Interact Club of Joram GM {in formation} members were on hand to distribute fliers to the public which had more information about Polio and how one can donate towards Polio eradication following the Rotary International guidelines. The participants also had the opportunity to invite the public to Zumba event which took place at Karen village on 24th October 2019 with the main aim of raising more funds towards polio

The public were more curious and eager to learn about polio and Rotary in general which calls for more engagement. Day by day the safety and well being of our children in our society and across the globe is threaten by the increasing cases of chronic diseases which polio is one of them, but we can all play our own small part by always supporting, educating and influencing others in ways to bring a lasting positive change in the world.

We don’t live in a perfect world, and there’s never going to be a perfect time to give but there are always people out there in need of help. The reality is that when we donate our resources we help others who need it. My attitudes have been greatly changed after the walk. I realize the impact we can bring to our society and the lasting change within the world with the little that we have.
