Celebrating the Power of Giving

Dear Rotarians and Friends,
As we step into November, we celebrate Rotary Foundation Month—a time dedicated to honoring The Rotary Foundation (TRF) and the remarkable change it has brought to communities worldwide. This month is our chance to reflect on the incredible journey of giving, service, and impact initiated by Arch Klumph in 1917, when he proposed an endowment “for the purpose of doing good in the world” with a humble balance of $26.50. Today, that seed has blossomed into one of the world’s most impactful charitable foundations, empowering us to transform lives through meaningful service.
The Foundation’s journey from an endowment to a major global philanthropic force is inspiring. In 1928, the endowment was officially renamed The Rotary Foundation, and by 1929, it made its first donation of $500 to support the International Society for Crippled Children. This organization, led by Rotarian Edgar “Daddy” Allen, eventually grew into Easter Seals. Following the passing of Rotary founder Paul Harris in 1947, donations poured in, and the Paul Harris Memorial Fund was established to further grow the Foundation. Since then, The Rotary Foundation has invested over $4 billion in life-changing, sustainable projects worldwide.
To advance TRF’s mission, our district launched the ‘Elevate Your Pin’ campaign this year, aimed at raising funds and encouraging members to become Paul Harris Fellows. Named in honor of Rotary’s founder, becoming a Paul Harris Fellow is a prestigious recognition given to those who contribute $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation. This recognition not only honors the donor’s commitment to making a difference but also funds service projects that bring about lasting change. Every Rotarian can make an impact, and every dollar counts. Just 60 cents can protect a child from polio, while $50 can provide clean water, and $500 can fund an antibullying initiative that creates safe spaces for children.
To celebrate and honor our generous donors, we are thrilled to announce that our Rotary Foundation Dinner will be held in January 2025 in Nairobi. This year, we have the great honor of hosting Rotary International President Stephanie Urchick, who will join us to recognize those who have shown exceptional dedication to TRF’s mission.
Throughout November, we encourage every Rotarian to learn more about TRF’s incredible work and to consider supporting its programs. The Foundation’s impact is felt globally, from advancing health to improving education, alleviating poverty, and fostering peace. With your support, TRF can continue changing lives, both locally and across borders. Together, we can build a future where goodwill, peace, and prosperity reach every corner of our world.
